Getty Unauthorized Use Letters

One of my clients recently received a letter from Getty Images claiming that they were making unauthorized use of their copyrighted material and demanded payment for the usage.

I am not a lawyer but I am surprised and seriously disappointed by Getty's letter. Based upon their strategy, I would never consider working with them.

Again, I am not a lawyer, but I do believe that my client had the right to use the images in question and does not owe anything to Getty. I'm sure that some businesses that receive letters like this will simply pay the fee out of convenience, even if they are not guilty of any infringement.

A third time, I am not a lawyer, but even in from my simple minded perspective, I find it the basis for Getty's accusations extremely weak, and their demands totally unenforceable. They did not even provide copies of any copyright registration of said intellectual property.

In my humble opinion, Getty's actions are founded upon fear, uncertainty, and dread - a terrible foundation.
