Diebold, a maker of ATMs and other kiosk-like machines, is being sued by a software company, Artifex, over GPL violations.
The violations relate to software which Diebold allegedly uses in their voting machine products. Diebold is a very large company, and I'd be surprised if they don't have a patent which they can defend themselves with.
While this case is interesting and I'm curious to find out what will happen, I have to wonder about a bigger issue - why aren't there any open source voting machines?
